Establish and Maintain Contact
with Group Members
Don’t wait until your pre-trip meeting to meet and establish on-going contact with your group members. E-mail is among the best means for doing so — but phone contact is important, too.
- Assuming you haven’t signed up group members personally, you should call them as soon as possible, introduce yourself, ask if you can answer any questions and let them know the best way to get in touch with you. If you do not work full-time at the dive store, or are not always there, give them an alternate contact at the store who can answer questions or solve problems in your absence.
- In so far as most of your group members will sign up months in advance, maintain ongoing contact with them using e-mail. A monthly, pre-trip e-mail “newsletter” can keep customers informed of topics ranging from deposit- and balance-due dates, pre-trip meeting dates, and information about their destination.
In general, you want group members to get in the habit of coming to you for information — not to the Internet or someone else who may not be as well informed as you are.
