How many of your rental regulators
are equipped with dive computers?
- Nearly one quarter of stores reporting say that most or all of their rental regulators are equipped with dive computers.
- Over three quarters of stores say that at least some of their rental regulators are equipped with dive computers.
- Less than one out of four stores reports having no dive computers in rental.
Note: These numbers have been adjusted to also reflect dive stores that rent wrist-mounted computers in lieu of console-mounted ones.
What is interesting in this instance is how stores answered the question, Do your entry-level students have the opportunity to use dive computers during open-water training?
Over half said Yes. Bear in mind, this can mean anything from, “Yeah, we’d allow students to rent or purchase a computer for their open-water dives if they really wanted to,” to, “Our training agency’s standard mandate the use of dive computers in training.” Still, it appears from these numbers that students are more likely to be exposed to dive computers in training than they are to weight-integrated BCs.
Dive computer use is by no means universal. Still, it is a rare recreational diver who dives actively, yet does not own (or at least plans to buy) a dive computer.
