Back to Gaithersburg
Revising our route earlier in the day put Gaithersburg squarely on the way home. We arrived at Atlantic Edge Dive Center shortly after lunch and were greeted by owner John Harman.
Among his many accomplishments, John has lived and worked in south Florida and done considerable work with the National Aquarium in Baltimore. This has given him access to some unique display items which help remind visitors that his store is their gateway to experiencing the underwater world first hand. See for yourself in this issue’s “Display” column.
Scott and John had the opportunity to discuss a number of topics. Scott was particularly impressed by the colorful brochures John and his staff created to promote classes, trips and activities.
With three store visits under our belt, we were able to make it back to Northern Virginia before the start of the infamous Washington, DC rush hour. Everyone’s head was packed with ideas. Equally important, Scott had further cemented his relationship with his fellow retailers.
It’s important to note that this sort of communication and cooperation would most likely not have been possible without the relationships forged by the Mid-Atlantic Scuba Retailers Association. Does your region have a retail association? If it does, then odds are you already know the benefits of belonging. If not, perhaps this is the time to start one.
