YouTube
Yet another incredible free service from Google, YouTube enables companies and individuals to upload videos to the Web, where they can be searched for, found and viewed by anyone. YouTube videos can also be easily embedded in any web page.
There are any number of reasons why dive stores should consider uploading promotional videos to YouTube or embedding them in their websites, including:
- Videos stream faster and more reliably than they would if hosted on the typical small business webserver.
- Businesses don’t have to pay for the additional bandwidth the streaming video consumes.
- Visitors don’t necessarily have to go to your website to find and watch your video. They can search for keywords using Google or YouTube that will lead them to your video and, if you have your web address somewhere in that video, lead them to your website as well.
- You are not limited to embedding your own YouTube videos in your website. Anything that’s on YouTube is available, including the DEMA Be a Diver promotional spot.
This is what Just Add Water did. They have a banner (which you just saw) that says Four Reasons Why You Should Be a Diver, along with the YouTube logo. When visitors click on the banner (which the SitePal avatar encourages them to do), two things happen:
- The Be a Diver video appears in a separate pop-up window.
- Behind the video, the website switches from the home page to the Learn to Dive page.
If you have not yet seen it, suffice it to say that the Be a Diver video is among the best promotional tools diving has had in quite some time. It is difficult to imaging how the average person could watch it and not want to get certified.
After visitors watch the video and close the window, they find themselves already on Just Add Water’s Learn to Dive page. This means they don’t have to hunt for information on getting certified.
