Now Don’t Let Them Get Away

Whether it is your existing customers or nondivers seeking to get into diving for the first time, every person who comes to your website is valuable. Once they arrive, you don’t want them slipping away anonymously.

One way you can do this is to provide every visitor to your website with a means to sign up for your mailing list. Our sample site has a link appearing on nearly every page that invites visitors to subscribe to the store’s print and e-mail newsletters.

When visitors click on this link, they are taken to a page where they can submit their contact information. (Note that if you ask for anything more than name and e-mail address, you will need to promise to send customers something in print from time to time; otherwise, they may be reluctant to share this info with you.)

A further benefit of forms such as this is that you can ask visitors to tell you how they found your website. This can tell you a lot about where your traffic is coming from. See example.
