Using Foam Core to Pump
Up Your Display Signage
Among the greatest boons to dive store operators over the past few years has been the availability of inexpensive color printers and software such as Microsoft Publisher and Word, and Adobe Pagemaker. These tools make it easier than ever to create bright, colorful display signage.
The only problem is, even if printed on heavy, photo-paper stock, these signs are not really ready to “stand on their own.” They tend to bend and curl, which diminishes their professional appearance.
A common solution to this problem is to use clear, acrylic sign holders. These are available as stand-alone counter displays, or in versions that can hang on slat wall or grid wall. While these acrylic sign holders provide one of the best all-around solutions, they are not right in every situation. Among their limitations:
- They are not cheap.
- No matter how many you have, it always seems to be a few less than you actually need.
- The look that acrylic sign holders create is not always what you may want.
Fortunately, there is a viable alternative for when you don’t have enough acrylic sign holders (and don’t want to invest in additional ones) — or just want a different look for your signs. That is to use foam core as a mounting surface for your display signage.
